One of the most popular family camping grounds near Brisbane is the Big 4 Sandstone Point Holiday Resort, located just one hour’s drive north of Brisbane – near Bribie Island.
This camping ground features a broad variety of accommodation options to suit everyone’s holiday style. Choose from tent sites, luxury tents and self-contained villas. The grounds feature an incredible range of activities and modern amenities to make even the fussiest of campers happy.
Sandstone Point Holiday Resort is not for campers on a budget, nor for families seeking nature and privacy. It is however a great destination for those seeking a lot of fun, fantastic amenities and a convenient getaway
Sandstone Point Accommodation Options
Our first tip if you’re planning to holiday at Sandstone Point Holiday Park is to get in early – as accommodation can book out well in advance. Even better – if you can time your visit to be mid-week and outside school holidays like we did, you are likely to have the facilities almost to yourself!
Our next tip is to choose the best accommodation option for your ideal getaway – are there are many to choose from.
Unpowered and Powered Camping Sites
The Sandstone Point camping grounds have a large number of unpowered and powered sites to choose from. You will be allocated a site, and in the peak times you might be quite close to your neighbours. The sites are set on level grass and the bathroom facilities are excellent – very modern and clean.

Sandstone Point Villas
We loved the two-bedroom villa that we rented during our stay. It was very new, clean, and comfortable – our accommodation had everything we needed.

Sandstone Point villas come in several sizes including studio, two-bedroom, three-bedroom, and four-bedroom options and all include fully self-contained bathrooms and kitchens.
Other than the Luxury Villa (which is suited to couples), the villa bathrooms don’t include a bath but do have very large showers.
The kitchens include a full-sized fridge, dishwasher, microwave oven and stove. Plates, cutlery and limited cooking pans and utensils are provided. You may like to bring a few of your own things if you plan to cook a lot during your stay.

The deluxe two bedroom villa includes two queen beds and an ensuite for each bedroom – and is better suited to accommodate two couples rather than a family with children.
On the deck is an outdoor dining table and chairs, and a small barbecue. Inside is a small dining table, a couch and television with a good variety of channels.
Family and Luxury Safari Tents
For a touch of glamour why not stay in one of the stunning safari tents? There are two options available.
A family safari tent sleeps four people – with one queen bed and a bed with a trundle. The luxury safari tent is perfect for couples – including one queen bed and very luxurious ensuite.
You will be all kinds of comfortable here as no modern amenity is spared. In all safari tents you will find your own bathroom, television, small kitchenette, lounge area and air-conditioning. Enjoy your meals on the deck which includes a barbecue.
Sandstone Point Activities
There is so much to do at the Sandstone Point Holiday Park which will keep the kids busy – including water park, pool, jumping pillow and games room.

Water Park and Pool
Definitely a highlight of the park – the Sandstone Point water park features a large tipping bucket, and five slides! This is probably best suited to children aged six years and up – although each child is different. Our son was three years old when we visited and wasn’t up to braving the tipping water and big slides.
The large resort-style pool is heated, and includes a separated wading area for little ones. This is perfect for all ages. It is surrounded by comfortable seating with umbrellas, perfect for relaxing with refreshments. Large floating cushions are available – making this the ultimate chill out zone if you can time it well to avoid the crowds.

Jumping Pillow
This was definitely a favourite for my son – he loved bouncing up and down, up and down the jumping pillow for as long as we would let him. Located behind the water park – it is a great way to tire out little ones before their afternoon nap!

Playground
The playground is located right next to the jumping pillow and features two slides, climbing wall and ropes. It is a great playground for most ages.

Arcade Room and Kids Play Room
There is an arcade room and a kids play room which includes gaming consoles, television, table tennis and a large pool table. These are ideal for primary school aged children and older who are seeking a break from the heat or just need a rest.

Tennis Court
The holiday park includes a tennis court – for which you can book a session through reception. You can have a game between the hours of 7 am and 6 pm. Equipment is available to hire.
Basketball Court
There is a basketball court located just next to the tennis court. A ball can be borrowed from reception.
Games
Scattered throughout the holiday park are games such as an oversized chess board and bocce court.
Go Karts for Hire
Pedal push go karts are available for hire, and there are plenty of pathways through the holiday park to race them around.

Fire Pit
In the winter months, Sandstone Point Holiday Park puts on a fire pit at the Sunset Deck (located at the back of the park) on Friday and Saturday evenings. What better way to gather the family for some downtime after a big day playing, than to relax in front of the fire?
Gym
Just to prove it has everything, this resort includes an air-conditioned gym with an elliptical machine, exercise bike, treadmill, rowing machine, multi function station and free weights.
Camping Amenities
For families camping at Sandstone Point resort, there are very comfortable amenities provided. Several bathrooms with hot showers and situated across the holiday park. We found these to be very clean and modern.
Large camp kitchens with all the facilities you could need are also provided. This includes fridges, barbecues, microwaves, kettles and toasters. Perhaps the best features is how spacious they are, including shade and plenty of tables and seating.
The Sunset Deck is located at the back of the park – and it includes a barbecue area so you can enjoy a meal with a view.

Pool Bar and Restaurant
The casual bar and restaurant is located near reception and overlooks the pool. We enjoyed relaxing here for lunch and afternoon drinks. They have a good drinks menu including cocktails which you can enjoy on your sun lounger.
The food menu is relatively basic and you won’t find much that is diet-friendly here. Think calamari or schnitzel and chips, pizza and hot dogs.
But if you feel like something different, you don’t have to wander far to the Sandstone Point Hotel for a meal.
Sandstone Point Hotel
The Sandstone Point Hotel is accessible by a walkway and is really a destination in itself. This restaurant and outdoor concert venue overlooks the Pumicestone Passage, and includes one of the prettiest playgrounds and petting zoos we’ve ever seen.

Very much tailored to families, the Sandstone Point Hotel is open for lunch and dinner and has a large menu which includes casual options such as pizza and a kid’s menu.
The hotel’s Oyster Shed is located right on the water, serving fish and chips, burgers, kids’ meals and of course oysters – available for dine in or takeaway.
The Sandstone Point Hotel hosts a wide variety of events and concerts – we definitely recommend you check their events calendar before planning your visit to the Sandstone Point camping grounds. An event can make the price of accommodation rise, and we imagine the park grounds would become very busy.
If you are planning to attend an event however, it provides the perfect place to stay. They even have family events for Easter, Australia Day and Christmas which would be a lot of fun for the kids!
The Sandstone Point Hotel is a popular venue for special events weddings. Having accommodation for your guests right next door is a huge bonus, and you can also organise pre-event drinks and nibbles by the pool the day before.
