Play Walk and Learn at Raven Street Reserve

Raven Street Reserve Chermside

We had driven past the entrance to the Raven Street Reserve many times, completely unaware of what this bushland park offered. After catching a glimpse of the playground one day we decided to stop in. We were surprised to find the Reserve also contains the Downfall Creek Bushland Centre, a Senses Trail, and lovely picnic areas.

Downfall Creek Bushland Centre

The Downfall Creek Centre was closed on the Friday we visited. It is open Monday to Thursday 9 am to 4 pm and includes displays about the area’s flora and fauna and the importance of environment preservation.

When we arrived to the park we followed signs which lead us to the Senses Trail. A boardwalk guided us on a 200 metre walk through stunning bushland.  The path is fully accessible to wheelchairs and prams and just the right distance for little legs. Informative signs taught us about the local environment along the way.

On the walk you can spot birds and other wildlife and the path includes visual cues to things of interest along the way. A poetic trail map and quiz can also be downloaded and used to spark conversation and encourage your child’s imagination. If you visit when the Downfall Creek Centre is open you can borrow an audio guide.

After our loop of the trail we explored the playground. The fort-style climbing frame fits perfectly into it’s bush surroundings. It has plenty of equipment to keep the kids busy climbing, sliding and spinning around.

If you’re coming down with the family there is a BBQ available too. We had some morning tea before Little Man motioned for us to take another walk around the Senses Trail. We loved our visit to the Raven Street Reserve – it’s a great place to enjoy our wonderful bushland that is scattered throughout Brisbane.Raven Street Reserve ChermsideRaven Street Reserve Bushland
