Unfortunately Open Book Cafe has now closed. The good news is it has been refurbished and reopened as Vince and Louies. Review coming soon. For other great local child-friendly cafes in north Brisbane, you might like to check out the Ferny Hills Pure Tennis Cafe, Birds and Bees Cafe Everton Hills, or Cafe Lagarto Samford Lifestyle Centre.
Open Book Café have found a winning formula for bringing the locals back time and time again. Not content with just providing good coffee, food and service – they’ve added a splash of funk music, colourful murals, a kid’s corner and Happy Hour- making them a standout venue in the Hills region.
Open Book Cafe Fun
We often pop into the Open Book café for breakfast or some coffee and cake. Once we arrive little man likes to choose a book from the large selection available – and we read to him while we wait for our food. Funk music and episodes of the hit 70’s television show Soul Train play inside – giving the place a fun and quirky atmosphere. The play corner isn’t just for the kids – it’s hard to resist having a go at Pacman or Space Invaders on the old style video game.
The funk cafe also has colouring in books and pencils, board games and other toys. There is plenty to keep children busy. It is one of the few places that our son will entertain himself, and stay close by – so we don’t need to jump up and chase after him at any stage.
Open Book Café also has a welcoming community spirit and sometimes hosts live music acts and fun Design and Wine nights!
Open Book Cafe Menu
The food is just as impressive as the atmosphere. At Open Book Cafe the cake selection never disappoints and the full day menu is also fantastic.
Open Book Cafe Breakfast
The Open Book Cafe breakfast menu is available until 2 pm. Prices start from just $8.90 for toasties, and it includes all the traditional favourites including bacon and eggs, the big breakfast, eggs benedict, avocado on toast, fritters, and of course pancakes. The kid’s menu starts from $4.90.
Open Book Cafe Lunch and Dinner
Lunch options are also available – with burgers, Vietnamese salad, paninis and wraps included.
Dinner is all about the pizzas. And they are some of the best pizzas around!
Adults can enjoy an Open Book Cafe Happy Hour. At selected times beers, wine, cider and spirits are just $5 (check with the cafe for current times)!
The café also allows you to BYO wine.
The sweets are just as unique as the rest of the café – with Boost chocolate bar calzones begging to be eaten.
Next time you’re in the area makes sure you drop into this little gem – and grab a photo in front of the colourfully painted walls while you’re there – they make a great backdrop for pictures of the kids.
