If you’re searching for a fun, relaxed and affordable weekend activity with the kids, we couldn’t recommend the Lyell Deer Sanctuary more! We had driven past the road sign pointing out this family attraction on our way to Dayboro in April and are so glad we finally made the time to visit. It was such a great find that we immediately wanted to tell everyone about it!
We visited the sanctuary on a Saturday morning and there were already quite a few cars parked out the front, suggesting it’s a popular place to visit. We wandered in to discover a friendly, casual atmosphere and stunning bush surroundings.
Little man got straight to work feeding and patting the deer. He was very excited to see a new animal he hadn’t met before. The deer are such gentle and charming creatures that anyone couldn’t help but fall in love with them. They were very patient with all of the attention from the children, and very keen to be fed the deer pellets. When they’d had enough they would let you know by swiftly departing for a quieter spot.
Food and Drinks
A large verandah offers plenty of shade and tables to relax at and have a bite to eat. Bring your own food for morning tea or lunch to enjoy in the peaceful bush setting. Coffee and snacks are also available for purchase. The undercover area also includes a corner filled with books, and toys – to keep the kids entertained while you take a break.
