Get outside, take a walk and discover a magical fairy land at Kumbartcho Sanctuary, Eatons Hill. This sanctuary is located on 6 hectares of bushland, 30 minutes north of Brisbane CBD.
It is maintained and operated by volunteers in partnership with Moreton Bay City Council
Kumbartcho Sanctuary Walk
The Kumbartcho Sanctuary walk is 430 metres, and takes approximately 10 minutes.
Leave the pram behind if you can – it’s a little difficult to avoid some steps and dirt pathways.
The walk is very scenic – passing a large dam – and there is plenty of native wildlife to spot including koalas, snakes, frogs, turtles, butterflies, possums and brush turkeys.
Kumbartcho Sanctuary Fairy Walk
Towards the end of your walk you will come to the magical Kumbartcho Sanctuary fairy walk, which is a pure delight for younger children.
Follow the signs to the Fairytale trail where you will find a magical village filled with tiny fairy homes, including Peter Rabbit and Wally Wombat’s abodes.
Kids will love exploring the little town and knocking on doors to peek inside the little homes.
Children can write a letter to the fairies and post it to them in the fairy letterbox.
Nearby the fairy trail is a fun toy car speedway.
Kumbartcho Sanctuary Playground
Near the carpark of the Kumbarcho Sanctuary is a playground – for kids needing to burn off a little more energy.
This area includes slides, swings, climbing ropes, and a play cottage with a shade sail. It also features a grass area and picnic facilities (see details below).
Kumbartcho Education Centre
Also on the grounds of Kumbartcho Sanctuary is an Environment Education Centre which features displays and activities focused on local flora and fauna.
Themed displays focusing on specific environmental topics are changed regularly.
Children can also participate in craft activities or pot their own plant for a small fee.
Kumartcho Sanctuary also houses a nursery that stocks mostly local native species and is run by volunteers.
Picnic Facilities
Bring a picnic, as Kumbartcho Sanctuary has a free electric BBQ with shaded picnic tables – available near the playground.
Toilet Facilities
Kumbartcho sanctuary has toilets available for public use near the playground.
Tips for your visit
Pack a picnic – there are some lovely shaded areas to eat.
Take bug repellant as there are a lot of mosquitos around.

Opening Hours
The Kumbartcho playground and walks are open from dawn to dusk every day.
The Environment Education Centre is open from Tuesday to Friday, from 10 am – 2 pm. Closed Public Holidays.
The Nursery is open Tuesday – Friday 9 am – 3 pm, Saturday and Sunday 8 am – 12 pm. Closed Public Holidays.
